Research Signifies Military Employees Indifferent To Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy

A Pentagon research was commissioned months ago to gauge what armed forces employees thought about a possible repeal of the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy. The research indicates the majority of service members Don't think it will hurt much. Members of the armed forces think that a DADT repeal wouldn't really impact anything. Most polls have indicated the majority of Americans are for repealing the policy.

Research says service employees Don't ask, tell or care

The “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy is one that personal within the service don’t even care about. This was shown in a study done by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Gates was pretty mad the Washington Post leaked the research results which wasn’t too much of a surprise since leaked documents have come from the government a lot lately. The Don't Ask Don't Tell repeal wouldn’t change anything in the military. This is what 70 percent of the respondents believed. There were 150,00 spouses of military personnel and 400,000 military members that got the survey. Of those, less than 30 percent responded.

The majority of Americans back repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell

It seems like within the last few years, polls and surveys have been changing. The repeal of the DADT policy is being supported increasingly more by Americans. A CNN poll indicated that more than 70 percent of Americans embrace repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell, and a recently released Pew Research poll said 58 percent of Americans were for repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell policy based on CNN. The opinion in the country can be different though considering the polls and surveys really can only accurately say something about those who responded to it. More people want the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy to go away though it seems.

Soon coming to a decision

This issue will likely be resolved in the next legislative session. There has been lots of argument over the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. Also, whether or not homosexuals can serve is argued. Being homosexual would make it impossible to be in the military. Discharge would happen. An order came from President Truman when the military was segregated too. Racial discrimination was ended within the military then.
