Air Force Looking For Lost F-22 Fighter
An F-22 fighter aircraft has gone lost above the Alaskan wilderness. The military has started a search-and-rescue mission. Air traffic control lost all contact with the aircraft Tuesday night. The single pilot was on a "training mission". The stealth fighter didn't transmit any mayday before losing contact.
Not able to discover F-22 fighter jet
On Tues evening at 7:40 p.m. Alaska time, air traffic lost connection with a jet. This jet was an F-22 Raptor jet. In AK is stationed the Elmendorf’s 3rd Wing which is where the single pilot is a member. Search and rescue teams have been dispatched to areas around the last known location of the F-22 Raptor. They are also looking for the plane with C-130 aircraft and military services helicopters. The pilot and the F-22 Raptor have not been heard of as of right now.
Weather conditions did not affect whatever
While the missing F-22 Raptor was on a training mission above the Alaska wilderness, weather was not likely an aspect. The weather was “fair” where the F-22 lost connection with air traffic control according to the National Weather Service. There were no indications from the pilot that something was wrong. Nothing within the transmission shows this. Instead, the F-22 simply disappeared off the radar.
Ending F-22 Raptor manufacturing
As of October 2009, the U.S. Government has removed all military services funding for further manufacturing of the F-22 Raptor aircraft. Stealth fighting is one of the large things the plane can do. Intelligence and ground attack are both issues the aircraft can do also. The F-22 Raptor has been replaced by the F-35 slowly though as it is more versatile and less expensive. At about $150 million per aircraft, the F-22 also represents a significant investment. The F-22 Raptor plane has actually been banned from United States exports. This means no other countries have the plane around. Searches for the missing Alaska F-22, which the Pentagon confirmed is "believed to be crashed" will continue.
